Day Thirteen... The 12 Days of Christmas Lesson

The little men learned a hard lesson tonight and I didn't even plan it! We got a knock at our door about 7:30 p.m. tonight... when we opened the door there was a huge sack full of presents sitting on our door step. Little man #2 was asleep on the couch, but LM#1 was so excited he started digging all the stuff out. I noticed tags with numbers on each gift so I told him to stop and let me take a picture... learning about the Twelve Days of Christmas would make a good Advent activity (see how excited he is!). After the picture we lined up the gifts by day. When we got to the bottom of the bag there was a tag that said, "To the Barry Perkins family". I kid you not. Someone had delivered a huge bag of gifts to the wrong house!

Now I had to explain to LM#1 that these gifts were for someone else (he said that they brought them to us so they are ours). We know the Perkins Family so it helped being able to point to different things, like a box that obviously had clothes in it, and say, "see, this has clothes in it. The Perkins have a baby and a little girl. We don't have either so we can't use these clothes... but they can." We repacked the bag and loaded up in the van and went to play Santa for someone else. LM#1 was still having a hard time with the whole idea of giving up gifts that had just been delivered to them. I told them that it was very nice of them to take things to the people they belonged to so we would stop by the manger and they could put straw in the Baby Jesus bed for doing something so nice. That helped.

Enjoy the Journey
